Hill district Chittagong is the main seaport and a large industrial area of Bangladesh. There are so many tourist spots in here such as Potenga Sea Beach, Foy's Lake, Sitakunda Ecopark, Mahamaya Lake, Nijhum Island etc.
Sitakunda:
Sitakunda is a famous place for Hindu religion people. The legends of the area, the sage Bhargava created a pond (local name Kunda) for Sita Devi to bathe in when Ram, Sita and Lakshman visited in the forests during his exile. According to the name of Kunda the place name is Sitakunda. There are many temples in Sitakunda such as Chandranath temple, Loknath temple, Bhavani temple, Sonkar moth, Ramakrishna Mission, ISCON temple. Shivaratri festival is held here in February of every year. In the fair time thousands of pilgrims are assemble in this place.
There are many waterfalls in Sitakunda. One falls is Sahasradhara which is 5 km. north side from main Sitakunda. Another falls name is Suptadhara, which is located at 5 km. south from temple place. Another one small spring is flowing down from the chandranath temple hill. There is a Eco park on chandranath hill.
How will you go: There are many bus services going Chittagong from Dhaka. You can go Sitakunda by these any services.
Where will you stay: There is no good accommodation facilities at Sitakunda. Distance of Sitakunda from Chittagong is not too more, so you can stay at night in Chittagong.
Nijhum Island: Nijhum Dwip is situated at Hatiya upazila in Noakhali District. its old name was Char Osman. The main attraction of the island, many footloose deer. About 5000 Chitral Harin (deer) are on the island. The government of Bangladesh declared Nijhum island area as a National Park.
How to go: Two way you can go to the Nijhum Island. If you want to go from Chittagong, then firstly you have to go Hatiya by motor boat or ship. From Hatiya you can go to Nijhum Island by local motor boat.
If you want to go from Dhaka, then you can go to Tamuruddin by Launch Boat from Sadarghat. It may take 12 hours to reach. From Tamuruddin ghat you may reach at the Nijhum Island by motor boat. It may cost between 1,200 to 1,500 taka. per day for a motorboat.
Where to Stay: If you can take permission for forest department, then can stay in the forest rest house in Nijhum Island. Another way can stay at District Commissioner guest house, here also need permission.
Patenga Beach: Patenga Beach is located at near the mouth of 'Karnaphuli' River and very close to Shah Amanat International Airport. From Chittagong town you can easily go to Patenga Beach by public bus or CNG auto rickshaw. Bus or Tempu will take about 30-35 BDT. You can hire better transport also.
Foy's Lake: This Lake constructed by Assam-Bengal Railway engineer Mr. Foy. Location of the lake at Pahartali in Chittagong. In here has a water theme park, an amusement center and some resorts. Here you can enjoy boat rides on the lake, concerts and many other fun activities. You can go to the Foy’s Lake by bus, auto rickshaw or other services. War Cemetery: It is a one of three war cemetery in Bangladesh. There are 755 great warriors graves in this graveyard who died in the second world war in Chittagong areas; 17 of them are unidentified. It is located on Dampara in Chittagong; 22 km north of Chittagong Airport and 8 km from Chittagong Port. The cemetery is open for visitors at 7 am, takes a break at 12 pm to 2 pm and closed at 5 pm.
Chittagong Ethnological Museum: This Museum located in Agrabad in Chittagong. It is the only ethnological museum in Bangladesh. It helps visitors to know the lifestyles and heritage of various ethnic groups of the country. It opened for visitors everyday without Sunday and Govt holiday. It was established in 1965, everyday around 300 visitors visit this museum.
Shrine of Hazrat Bayezead Bostami: The shrine of Bayezead Bostami located at Nasirabad in Chittagong. This great saint came to Chittagong in the 10th Century to spread the Islam. Beside the tomb there is a pond. A large number of turtles swim in this pond, which is very rare and endangered species. Legend that when Bostami was spread Islam in this area some evil, disturbed him; then Bostami transform these evil into turtles.
Heritage Park: Shaheed Zia Memorial Complex or Mini Bangladesh located at Bahaddarhat in Chittagong. Here has replicated of the major structures of the country includes National Parliament Building, National Memorial of Savar, Ahsan Manzil, Paharpur Monastery, Kantajew Temple of Dinajpur, Lalbagh Fort etc. There are a tower of 71 meters in mini Bangladesh and has a restaurant on the tower, which is rotating once in every 90 minutes.
