Bandarban Travel Information

Bandarban district is an part of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. It is one of the most attractive travel destinations of Bangladesh. It situated on 318 km south-east of Dhaka. Tajindong the highest peak in Bangladesh is situated here.

How to Go: There is several AC and non-AC bus services which leave Dhaka for Bandarban. Bus leaves at late night from Kalabagan, Arambagh, Kamalapur of Dhaka and reached at Bandarban at morning 7.00 am. Distance of Bandarban from Dhaka is 320 km; ticket price 550 taka for Non AC bus service (2013). You can also go Bandarban through Chittagong; distance around 75 km, takes about 2.30 hours to reach.

Where to Stay: Various hotels in here anywhere you can stay; name of some hotels Hill Bird, Green Hill, Purabi Hotel, Millonsori Cottege etc.

Permission: It has to require the permission of DC for foreign tourists to visit in this area. You have to take permission before three days when you enter here.

Tracking way at Bandarban: There is several tracking road to visit tourist spot at bandarban.

First road starting from Bandarban to become Y-Junction, Chimbuk, Nilgiri, Thanchi, Tindu, Remakri, Nafakhum you can go up to Amiakhum.
Second road, from Bandarban to become Y-Junction, Rumabazar, Bogalake, Harmun para, Dajiling para, Keokaradong, Pasing para, Jadupai falls, Baklai falls, Simtalamping Para you can reach at Tajingdhong.
Third tracking way, from Bandarban to become Y-Junction, Rumabazar, Bogalake, Soleman Para, Ruma Khal, Pukurpara, Raikhong Falls, Dhupanichora Para you can reach up to Tui Ku Tumu Falls.

Tour to Nafakhum, Remakri and Tindu

Nafakhum is a very scenario natural falls, situated at Thanchi upazila in Bandarban district. Its called Nayagra of Bengal.

Way on Nafakhum: Firstly you have to go Badarban, from Bandarban town you will go to Thanchi by local jeep or public bus. Fare for public bus service 200 taka per person and reserved jeep or Chander gari may cost around 5000 taka. To reach at Thanchi it takes to time around 4-5 hours. From Thanchi you have to take an guide. You have to pay guide society charge 1 hundred taka and per day guide charge 500 taka. Guide will help to you, how will reach at Nafakhum. After that have to take permission from Thanchi BGB camp and have to write all information in here about you and your guide.

Way on Remakri
Our next destination will be Remakri. From Thanchi you have to hire a boat to reach Remakri. Rowing boat is more appropriate for this river. It will be better if you take some fruit, dry food and water because this waterway is too long and wouldn't find any shop. After 3-4 hours you will reach at Tindu. It is a wonderful place, large size of the stones are laid down in the small river, as like a kingdom of rock.

From Thanchi to Remakri boat journey may take around 8 hours to reach. From Remakri to Nafakhum by a walk may to need 2-3 hours. Boat doesn't run in this river way. When you reached at Nafakhum falls you will forget all tiredness, as like a charming hilly girl is dancing through stone way.

There are some rest house at Remakri Bazaar where can stay at night; or may stay at tribal house, it will be a great experience about tribal life.

Amiya khum

It is a excellent falls area at Bandarban, located beside Myanmar border area. There are no require description about this fall, you can realize the beauty of the area of these pictures.
How to go:  First you have to go Bandarban, then will go to Thanchi; you can go by local bus or reserved jeep. From Thanchi you have to take a guide to travel Amiakhum. From here you will go to Paddamuk by boat. After that, you have to reach at Amiakhum by walk on Jiri path. From Paddamukh you will reach at Amiakhum through Bollong Para, Sat Bahi Kum, Nakiong Muk.
You should carry some snacks, drinks, torch, medicine for first aid in a bag; wear comfortable footwear; don't go anywhere without a guide; please respect the culture of the tribal people.

Boga Lake

It is located at 18 km south from Ruma Upazila Sadar of Bandarban. It is the highest natural lake in Bangladesh. It is situated at hilltop approximately 2000 feet above from the sea level. Boga is a local name of the Dragon, this lake is called also Dragon Lake.
There are a local conventional story behind the creation of this lake. Once upon a time lived a dragon in a hole of the mountains. Many village animals are killed by this dragon. Then the villagers angrily go to hole on the hill and killed the dragon. After that the cave is transformed into the lake.
How to go: At first you have to go at Bandarban, from here you have to go Rumabazar. After that you have to take a authorized guide from guide society, it is mandatory to take a guide for travelling in the hilly area. You have to pay 300-500 BDT for guide per day. You have to report at Ruma army camp. From here, by Chander Gari (local jeep) you can reach at Bogalake. It will take around 2.30 hours. You have to take a jeep before 4.00 pm because, there is no permission to go Boga lake from Ruma after 4.00 pm. Rent for local jeep 80 BDT per person and for reserving jeep 2000-5000 BDT.
Where to Stay: After reach at Boga Lake you can stay at night in tribal houses in Bogalake para. There is no modern residential hotel or restaurant in Bogalake. So you should have to manage your foods and drinks. You can also take food from tribal houses at Boga lake.

Raikhong Waterfall, Pukurpara

Raikhang located at Bilaichhori Thana of Rangamati district, but it is easy to go to Raikhang by the route of Bandarban. Tracking way of Raikhang: Bandarban > Bogalake > Saikatpara > Ananda Para > Pukurpar > Raikhang Falls.

How To Go: At first you have to go Bandarban by bus, after that you will go to Ruma Bazar by local jeep, from there you will reach at Boga Lake by Chander Gari. You have to take a guide from Ruma Bazaar. You can stay one night at Boga Lake and you should start journey to Raikhong at early in the morning. There is no plain road or waterway to go at Raikhang, so you have to go all paths by foot. It will take around 8-10 hours to reach at Pukurpar. So you have to take some dry food and water to drink in bag.
After reaching, you have to stay at tribal house of Pukurpara minimum one night. After visiting, you will leave this place, but its scenery will stay your memory at long day.

Keokradong

Keokradong is located on Ruma Upazila at Bandarban and 30 km away from the Ruma Sadar. Its height is around 974 meters (3174 feet) from the sea level.
How to go: From Bandarban you will go to Ruma by local bus or jeep. Ruma is 50 km away from Bandarban. From here you should take a guide. Then you will go to the Boga lake by Chander Gari. Fare of jeep around 2500 taka and will take 2.5 hours.
Boga lake to Keokradong you have to go by walk. On the way of Keokradong there is a tribal village name Darjilingpara, which is 4 km away from Bogalake and you can stay at night in here. Keokradong is 1 km away from Darjilingpar and will take 45 minutes to reach. This journey is too much hard and long, so you should carry some dry foods, drinking water and first aid box.

Jadepai Fallls

It is a wonderful waterfall at Bandarban. From Keokradong you have to go Jadipai by walk. But after reaching here you will forget all fatigue. There is a hotel nearby Keokradong. You can stay at night in here.

Baklai Waterfall

Baklai falls is located at the Baklai para of Thanchi Upazila in Bandarban District. It is the top highest (370 feet) waterfall in Bangladesh.
How to go: From Bandarban you will go to Thanchi by bus or local jeep. Distance between Bandarban to Thanchi is about 80 km. It will take around 4 hours. You have to report on Thanchi army camp before travel in hilly area. From here you should take a guide, and all information about you and guide have to submit in an army camp. Your tracking way will through Tutong Para, Komolabagan Para, Boarding Headman Para, Kaiton Para and at last Baklai Para. Guide will help you about of stay and meals. You have to travel Thanchi to Baklai by walk. It's a very impassable road and there is no any hotel or restaurant, so should carry some food and drink.

Tajingdong

"Tajingdong" is a local tribal word, its means Great Hill. It is the highest mountain in Bangladesh. It is situated at Pangsha union under Ruma upazilla in Bandarban. It is about 4300 feet (approximately 1300 meters) high from sea level.
How to go: There is no plain road to reach at Tajingdong, from Bogalake you have to reach at here by walk through hilly path.


Rijuk Fall

Rijuk waterfall is located on the bank of the Shankha River at Ruma Upazila of Bandarban. Any time of the year you can go there. From here you will get the touch of clean nature.
How to go: At first you have to go Ruma Upazila from Bandarban by public jeep. You can hire a boat to go Rijuk from Ruma Bazar. Fare for the boat is around 500 taka. There is no food and hotel facilities in the Rijuk fall area. So if you want to stay here long time, then carry meals and drinks with you from Ruma Bazar.

Nilgiri

It is a popular tourist spot in the Bandarban hill area, located on around 45 kilometers south from Bandarban on the way of Thanchi. From Bandarban you can reach there by bus or jeep. On the way to Nilgiri you have to register your name and address to the military check post. There is a nice resort with restaurant and helipad manage by Bangladesh Army. Shaylo Propat

This fall is located on beside Bandarban-Ruma road and 8 km away from Bandarban town. It is the most visited spot at Bandarban because of its nearer distance. You can easily go there by public jeep or auto rickshaw. Its flow became grown at rainy season. Its water is so clear, local tribal people use its water to drink. You'll come back, but hear the sound of this falls throughout the year.

Nilachol

Nilachol is a another tourist spot, located on Tiger Para and 5 kilometers away from Bandarban town. It is about 2000 feet above sea level. From Bandarban, you can go there by hiring private jeep or auto rickshaw.

Meghla Parjatan Complex

Meghla is a tourist spot of Bandarban maintained by district administration. It is 4 km away from the Bandarban town on the road to Chittagong. There are a Mini safari park, a Zoo, a Hanging bridge and a Lake at here.

Golden Temple

It is situated at the outskirts of the Bandarban city near Pulpara and 4 kilometers away from Bandarban town. On the top of the hill this pagoda is a holy site for Buddhist pilgrims. It is kept open for the visitors from 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm. Entrance fee 10 taka for each visitor.

Information About Tribal life

The tribal people are self-reliant; they grow their own food, weave their own clothes. They lead a simple life. They are generally peace loving and hospitable. Little number of them are Hindus, Christians and Animists, but the majority are Buddhists. They maintain matriarchal family.
