Sylhet (The Land of one Bud and Two Leaves)

It is a northern district of Bangladesh. By bus, train or air you can go Sylhet. Distance of Sylhet from Dhaka by road 270 km, fare for bus 500-750 taka and takes 7 hours and fare for train 75-1000 taka, takes 8-9 hours to reach. Plane fare around 4000 taka and takes only 45 minutes. There are many hotels in Sylhet where you can stay. There are many tourist spots at Sylhet; you can visit the Malanichara Tea Garden, Shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal, Gour Gobinda Fort, Temple of Sri Chaitanya Dev etc. around town.

Bichanakandi:

It's a very charming place in Sylhet. The water from the Indian state of Meghalaya flows in the Piyan river along the Bichhankandi rocky canal. From Amborkhana in Sylhet by auto rickshaw you may go to Hadarpar Bazar, its may take 3 Hours and fare 120 taka per person. From Hadarpar you will go to Bichanakandi by boat, fare for boat 1200 taka, 10 - 12 persons can journey at a time, its will take only 30 minutes. You may take lunch at floating hotel in Bichanakandi or at Hadarpar Bazar, but here no any residential hotels so you have to back at Sylhet after Bichanakandi tour.

Jaflong: It is situated at Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet District around the border of Bangladesh and Meghalaya in India. It is 60 km away from Sylhet town and you can reach there after 2 hours drive. Fare of bus 55 taka, reserved auto rickshaw 700 taka and micro bus around 200 taka.

Lalkhal: You have to drive 35 km to reach here. You can go there by public bus, microbus or auto rickshaw and will take around 45 minutes. It is the maximum rainfall area of Bangladesh.

Bholaganj: It located at Companiganj upazila and 33 km away from Sylhet town. There is no direct bus service to go Bholaganj. From Sylhet you can go by bus up to Tokerbazar after that by babytaxi you can reach to Bholaganj. It is famous as stone processing zone. The most rainfall area of the world Cherrapunji situated near this area. From here you can see nice hilly scenery of Meghalaya.

Jointapur: It was an ancient kingdom of Khasi. It is located at 43 km north from Sylhet town and on the way of Jaflong. It is only 5 km away from Jaflong. You can go there by public bus or auto rickshaw.

Ratargul: It is the only freshwater swamp forest of Bangladesh and one of the few in the world, situated in Fatehpur at Gowainghat Upazila of Sylhet. Most of the trees grown here Koroch tree. The forest goes under 20-30 feet water during rainy season. rest of the year the water level is about 10 feet deep.

Distance of Ratagul from Sylhet town is 26 km. You can go there in different ways. You will go to Sarighat by bus, from there go to Gowainghat by auto rickshaw, after that by boat you can reach at Ratargul. Second way, from Amborkhana you will go to Motorghat by CNG, it may take around 30 minutes. From here, by reserve boat you can go to Ratargul swamp forest. You have to take permission from the forest office before entering into the forest; and have to hire an another boat for touring in the forest.
